Staff Engagement Specialist
The Human Resources Department is seeking a Staff Engagement Specialist, reporting to the Director of Staff Relations & Development. This position is primarily based on the Beirut campus with regular commuting to the Byblos campus.Role Summary
The Staff Engagement Specialist is mainly responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing staff engagement and recognition activities and initiatives that foster a positive work environment, strengthen community spirit, connection, and a sense of belonging among staff, as well as celebrating staff achievements, milestones, and contributions to ensure staff feel valued and motivated.
S/he supports the University’s culture and values through creating meaningful opportunities for staff interaction across academic and administrative units and designing events, programs, and initiatives that enhance staff satisfaction, collaboration, and overall experience.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Handles the end-to-end planning, coordination, and logistical management of university staff events and initiatives that promote community spirit, staff connection and recognize achievements and milestones (e.g. Labor Day Celebration, Staff Service Recognition Ceremony, Retiree Farewell Gathering, Mother’s Day Celebration, Women’s Day Event, wellness days, cultural activities as well as other significant staff occasions, celebrations, social engagement programs and community gatherings
- Develops an annual calendar of staff engagement, recognition, and community-building initiatives in collaboration with different stakeholders
- Designs initiatives that enhance staff morale, celebrate achievements, and encourage participation across different departments and staff levels
- Handles event timelines, budgets, venue preparations, technical arrangements, materials, catering, invitations, and all operational details to ensure seamless execution
- Collaborates closely with internal departments, staff committees, and external community partners to expand the reach, quality, and impact of staff engagement initiatives
- Works closely with LAU Staff Advisory Council (SAC) members to support and coordinate staff-related activities and initiatives
- Ensures all events and programs reflect the University’s values, support its mission, and promote inclusivity, accessibility, and a welcoming environment for all staff
- Assesses engagement needs and recommends improvements that enhance staff experience and strengthen workplace culture
- Collaborates with internal communications to promote events and initiatives and encourage broad participation. Updates the staff engagement section on the University portal by uploading event photos, publishing content on the website, and coordinating internal communications and announcements related to staff activities
- Coordinates all staff-related condolences on campus to ensure timely, appropriate communication and handles the logistics of the in-house condolence arrangements
- Compiles and presents data reports as required
- Maintains metrics on engagement scores and trends, participation levels in programs, retention indicators, and recognition activity
- Reports periodically on the status and progress of work to the direct supervisor
- Stays up to date with industry trends and best practices relevant to the role
- Provides backup support in the office when needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, Events Management, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in staff engagement or employee relations, event planning and coordination in a complex organization, campus life, internal communications, or similar roles
- Background in developing initiatives that foster workplace culture and staff satisfaction
- Strong MS Office skills
- Excellent organizational skills to meet strict deadlines
- Capacity to design creative, innovative, and engaging programs and activities that resonate with diverse staff groups
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Advanced communications skills in English and Arabic (oral and written)
- Service excellence and customer focus orientation
- Excellent team player with commitment to building a positive team spirit
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, additional attendance may occasionally be required after hours or on weekends to support and attend events to ensure their successful execution. This role may also involve on-site visits to assess locations and ensure suitable facilities and arrangements.
