The Office of the Chief of Staff & General Counsel is currently looking for a Technology Transfer Officer reporting to the Chief of Staff & General Counsel. This is a central position that is based on Beirut campus.Role Summary
The Technology Transfer Officer is mainly responsible for facilitating the commercialization of university-generated innovations and cultivating collaborations between university inventors and external Intellectual Property (IP) attorneys. S/he will strategically guide invention disclosures and manage intellectual property portfolios, ensuring alignment with university goals and ethical standards.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and implements plans to enhance technology transfer and commercialization activities
- Collaborates with relevant constituents at LAU
- Fosters partnerships with industries, government agencies, and other research institutions to advance university technology
- Organizes workshops, seminars and educational events relevant to technology transfer and commercialization of innovations and research to promote innovation and entrepreneurship within the university community
- Serves as the primary contact between university inventors (faculty, researchers, and students) and external IP counsel
- Facilitates communication and collaboration between inventors and external collaborators to protect and commercialize intellectual property
- Handles the evaluation and analysis of invention disclosures, determining patentability and commercial potential
- Oversees the protection of intellectual property through patent filing and prosecution in coordination with external IP counsel
- Negotiates, drafts, and manages licensing agreements with assistance from external IP counsel, ensuring compliance with university policies and legal requirements
- Monitors TTO budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources to support technology transfer activities
- Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and university policies regarding technology transfer and intellectual property
- Prepares reports intended for university leadership on technology transfer activities and outcomes
- Handles the filing and organization of work materials
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Law, Science, Engineering, Business or any related field
- Minimum 5 years of work experience with 3 years in technology transfer, licensing, patent analysis, or related roles
- Knowledge of intellectual property laws and the patent process
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Business acumen and ability to evaluate commercial potential
- Understanding of academic research culture and publication cycles
