Web Content Specialist
The Strategic Communications Department (Stratcom) / Digital Communications Officer is looking for a Web Content Specialist reporting to the Director of Digital Communications. This is a central position that requires presence on both campuses.Role Summary
The Web Content Specialist is mainly responsible for spearheading information architecture and content development for websites. S/he also contributes to the creation and maintenance of attractive, user-friendly, interactive websites specifically as it pertains to content authoring, copywriting, and curation of textual and visual material.
The web content specialist works within a team that creates new LAU websites and supports the continual improvement of the existing pool of about 50 websites.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Web content planning:
- Recommends an information architecture (content organization) scheme suitable to the goals and audience of the website being created or modified based on initial brief and/or outline
- Proposes layouts conducive to quick consumption of facts, positive/delightful user experience, memorable impressions, strong brand associations (specialist may in some instances team up with a UX designer for this task, depending on the scale of the project)
- Presents proposals to stakeholders and amends said proposals based on feedback
- Web content development:
- Seeks information by meeting with team members or stakeholders, conducting research online, perusing internal documentation, and other means
- Verifies facts and ensures accuracy of all the information provided online
- Writes up content clearly, concisely, correctly, on brand
- Optimizes content for search engines and machine learning
- Selects images from various sources: stock photography, Stratcom library, Creative Commons images, commissioned illustrations or designs
- Selects external content that can be embedded, such as video, social posts, forms
- Integrates content in Movable Type, Wordpress, Squarespace and other content management systems, and publishes the material (CMS training will be provided)
- Conveys clear requirements to web developers. Provides them with the content elements needed to build a new page or feature, such as copy, images, layout, etc.
- Reviews built pages and pinpoints adjustments if needed
- Carries out frequent content updates on all websites owned by Stratcom
- Reviews and/or edits form copy, captions, and microcopy
- Maintains an organized and complete archive of original/background materials
- Composes email blasts; writes subject, preview text, body text; adds links, buttons, and images
- Works with web developers to edit or write user-friendly, plain-English guides and instructions for a large pool of non-technical website editors
- Stays up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the role
- Acts as backup support for office staff as needed
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, English, marketing, digital media, translation, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in web content development, digital communications, copywriting, information architecture, content management, marketing communications, or related competency
- Excellent command of English with strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills for digital media
- Working knowledge of content management systems, such as WordPress, Movable Type, Squarespace, Drupal, or similar platforms
- Working knowledge of SEO principles and emerging LLM optimization strategies
- Ability to organize and package content effectively based on how audiences consume content online
- Ability to deliver the appropriate voice for the brand, and tone for each audience and subject
- Critical thinking and ability to ascertain the credibility and veracity of information found online or delivered by LLMs and search engines
- Ability to create sitemaps and low-fidelity (non-design) wireframes that convey proposals and plans in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to use artificial intelligence and other tools to maximize efficiency
- Knowledge of intellectual property norms for online content
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
- Constant learner; self-driven to stay up to date in her/his field or industry
- Proactivity in suggesting needed improvements or collaborating with peers
- Ability to use online collaboration tools and work asynchronously
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, with possible attendance after hours and/or during weekends/holidays under exceptional circumstances to ensure business continuity.
