Writer, Advancement
The Advancement Entity / Advancement Operations Department is currently looking for a Writer, Advancement reporting to the Advancement Communications Manager. This is a central position that is primarily based on Beirut campus, with occasional commuting to Byblos campus.Role Summary
The Writer is mainly responsible for producing compelling content that resonates with donors, alumni, and institutional partners. S/he will help bring LAU’s impact to life through storytelling that inspires philanthropic support and deepens stakeholder connection. S/he will be working closely with colleagues in New York, and will ensure that all communications conform to rigorous editorial standards.
This role will collaborate with deans, faculty, and frontline fundraisers to gather insights and translate complex academic and research initiatives into clear, persuasive narratives. These stories will be used in donor proposals, stewardship reports, campaign collateral, newsletters, and digital content that reflect LAU’s values and vision.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Writes and edits high-impact content including case statements and donor proposals, donor profiles and stewardship reports and campaign messaging and alumni engagement materials
- Translates institutional priorities into compelling narratives that inspire giving
- Develops content for newsletters, major gift announcements, and donor communications
- Conducts the background activities to develop the stories: research, attending events and interviews
- Conducts fact-checking and research to ensure the validity and accuracy of the information
- Edits and proofreads own and others’ work, while adhering to the University’s and the editorial and procedural standards
- Partners with graphic designers and digital staff to produce integrated, multi-platform content
- Works closely with colleagues in New York and ensure consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across all Advancement communications
- Contributes to the development of coffee table books and special publications for major donors
- Supports content updates for the Advancement Entity’s website
- Archives collected information and photos/videos from research and interviews to allow potential revisiting for expanded/future articles
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English Literature, Translation, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of professional writing experience. Familiarity with the higher education field is a plus
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail
- Ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and formats
- Comfortable working across time zones and cultures in a fast-paced, global environment
- Strong MS Office skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Passion for education and mission-driven storytelling
- Ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives
- Collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn from senior writers and fundraisers
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic, with the ability to write across a wide range of topics—from business innovation and liberal arts to healthcare and medical education
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with possible/ occasional attendance after hours and/or during weekends/holidays to ensure business continuity. This role requires collaboration across multiple time zones.
