Profile

The Foundation Program in the School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is now accepting applications for an Adjunct Faculty, for the Spring 2023, for its Beirut Campus.

We are seeking faculty to teach the Design Culture course in the Foundation Program. The Foundation program is a common platform for all entering students in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design and Fine Arts. Applicants to this position should have prior experience in teaching, and would be required to teach one or more sections of the following course:

FND281 Design Culture

This course introduces students to the interrelationship between art and design, through the exploration of different contemporary topics. The first part of the course will be a survey of major artistic movements in the Twentieth century, and the second part will be a theoretical exploration of the cultural and aesthetic underpinnings of the various manifestations of contemporary design developments in the applied arts from spatial design to furniture, product, graphics, fashion and cinema.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree in art or design (fine arts, art history, design, architecture) in addition to teaching experience in this specific area of history and theory of design.

Duration of position

This position will open in Spring 2023, which extends from mid-January until end of May. Adjunct faculty typically receive a yearly contract of 6 to 12 credits, but may not be teaching at the same time at other institutions.  

Note: Given that this is a part-time position, the university cannot secure the candidate a work permit, if they do not have the legal right to work in Lebanon
