Position Summary
The Department of Communication Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University (LAU) invites applicants to a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. The department is interested in applicants with expertise in journalism and journalism studies and who can contribute to developing the BA in Multimedia Journalism and to producing research related to Arab media.
Responsibilities
- Teach on both campuses professional and theoretical courses in the multimedia journalism track, including news reporting and writing, cross platform news reporting, Arab and international media, research methods, investigative journalism, and other specialized journalism courses, such as science journalism.
- Actively engage in research focused on Arab media and journalism.
- Advise and mentor students in the journalism track and support student news production projects.
- Engage in service to the department and the university, particularly related to developing the new BA in multimedia journalism and future graduate degrees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in journalism studies or related field.
- Evidence of scholarship and research productivity in journalism studies.
- Evidence of successful university teaching.
- Demonstration of effective teaching methods and delivery.
- Understanding of the Lebanese and Arab media and journalism scenes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluent in Arabic.
- Professional background in journalism.
- Research focused on Arab media.
- Ability to conduct and teach research using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Understanding of the new digital media landscape and its effects on the journalism profession.
- Some data mining and data journalism abilities.
