Job summary
The department of Computer Science & Mathematics in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Bioinformatics. The Department is seeking highly qualified and motivated full-time faculty member who are committed to innovative teaching, research, and academic advising as well as institutional and community service.
Department Profile
The Computer Science and Mathematics is one of the 9 departments of the School of Arts and Sciences at LAU. It offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science, a B.S. in Bioinformatics, a B.S. in Mathematics, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Data Science and an M.S. in Computer Science. The undergraduate program in Computer Science is ABET-accredited.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Bioinformatics and related areas, including course development as needed
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students on academic progress and career paths
- Supervise senior student projects and graduate theses/dissertations
- Establish and maintain scholarly research in Bioinformatics and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines, including biology, computer science, data science, and related fields
- Contribute to departmental, school, and university service, including committee work and program development
- Engage in outreach, professional service, and activities that enhance the visibility and impact of the bioinformatics program
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a closely related discipline from a well-recognized University by the time of appointment. Candidates should have a strong publication record and teaching experience. Recent graduates with exceptional academic credentials are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, the department is particularly interested in candidates with research experience in evolutionary, comparative and functional genomics, as well as data science and AI. Additional qualifications include evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration and experience mentoring students and supervising research or applied projects.
