The Marketing and Communications Department at the Lebanese American University is looking for an Art Director to join a dynamic team of multidisciplinary professionals with a common desire to contribute to the successful implementation of the university’s integrated marketing and communications initiative.
Summary:
The Art Director will develop communications concepts to engage audiences and elicit responses, via the production of visual tools executed in print and/or digital formats.
He/She will ensure that the overall branding of the communications is in line with the brand pillars and the strategic communications requirements of LAU, and will apply consistency in the visual branding of LAU.
He/She will be responsible for the visual storytelling of LAU’s achievements and activities, will translate the full understanding of the communication requirements (audience needs, communication objectives, approaches) into the communications concepts, and will develop solutions to address the needs by integrating visuals and messaging.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produce attractive, audience-centric, original designs for use in print and online.
- Be the main filter for ensuring the consistency of the graphic identity and branding.
- Develop visual concepts to promote LAU’s programs, achievements, mission and vision, by creating print/online media collaterals and advertising (posters, brochures, print ads, online ads) and audiovisual materials (storyboards).
- Supervise the production of integrated communications by overseeing the execution of the concepts into a variety of formats and media.
- Ensure that all communications address the strategic requirements of persuasion, interaction, brand affinity, or other metrics.
- Supervise the development of visual stories by overseeing the work of photographers, videographers and multimedia producers.
- Supervise the work of other freelance designers to elevate the quality of strategic communications and to ensure consistency in branding and in visual identity.
- Coach and train the graphic design team on strategic communications, concept development and on integrated communications.
- Supervise the production of integrated communications by overseeing the execution of the concepts into a variety of formats and media.
- Support in all branding and re-branding efforts with concepts, research, benchmarking.
- Support the creative director as needed.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, advertising, communications arts, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with 2 years of supervisory level
- Strong command of written and spoken English
- Experience supervising photography
- Experience in photo editing, image editing, developing print, outdoor, digital advertising
- Experience in branding
- Knowledge of digital communications
- Strong persuasion and presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong commitment to deadlines
- Expertise in Adobe creative suite
- Strong knowledge of digital animation software
- Creative and a critical thinker
Additional Qualifications:
While not strictly necessary, each of the following qualifications will be considered a plus:
- Fluency in Arabic
- Familiarity with LAU campuses, faculty, staff, students or alumni
- Familiarity with the higher education field
