Registration Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when registration begins?

Always refer to the academic calendar on the official LAU Website to find out all the dates and deadlines related to the academic year.

Which courses should I take?

Refer to your degree evaluation on Banner to find out which courses you need to complete. It is suggested to follow the “Recommended Study Plan” related to your program on the LAU website.

You can always refer to your advisor for more assistance.

Why does Banner show me as a Freshman when I am being admitted as a Sophomore?

The student class system is based on the number of credits (transferred) from High School /Lebanese Baccalaureate or equivalent, and completed at LAU. Therefore, most new students are admitted to the “Freshman class”, until the completion of 30 credits, including those transferred from High School.

So when does my student class change?

Your student class automatically changes at the end of each semester/term after the final grades are posted, based on the number of completed credit hours as per the below table.

Classification

Credit Hours Completed

Freshman (1st year) 0 – 29
Sophomore (2nd year) 30 – 59
Junior (3rd year) 60 – 89
Senior (4th year) 90 – 119
5th year 120 – 159

You can find the chairperson of your related department through the following link.

Can I still register for a course that is at its full capacity?

Yes. You are placed on a waiting list if you try to register for a course that is at full capacity. In case an already registered student drops from the course, you will be notified via LAU webmail and will have 2 hours to register your seat. If not registered within 2 hours, the seat will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. The waiting list operates on a first come first serve basis.

I did not get a seat offered to me through the waiting list, can I still register for the course?

Yes. In some cases, you are allowed to override the maximum capacity of the course by submitting a Course Override request through your LAU Portal during the designated period on the calendar. Your request is studied by the related Chairperson of the course in question and approved/rejected accordingly.

I submitted an incorrect petition for the course override, can I submit a new one?

Unfortunately, the system only allows 1 active override request related to each student ID for a specific course. In case a new request needs to be submitted, the student must contact the related chairperson and request that he/she rejects the incorrect request before submitting a new one.
