Dr. Elie G. Haddad

Dr. Elie G. Haddad joined LAU in 1994 as Assistant Professor of Architecture. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002 and to Full Professor in 2010. He was appointed Dean of the School of Architecture and Design in October 2012.

Dr. Haddad holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (1998), a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (1995), a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati (1991) and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Boston Architectural College (1989).

Dr. Haddad’s research has focused on modern and contemporary architecture. He co-edited A Critical History of Contemporary Architecture, published by Ashgate in 2014. He has also published several works on architecture in Arabic, through Dar al Farabi.

Dr. Haddad was initially part of the team that charted the growth of LAU’s Department of Architecture and Design, which he then chaired from 2000 to 2005. Under his term, the program gained international exposure and received its first international accreditation from the French Architecture Commission.

As Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture, he chaired the committee that prepared the blueprint for the proposed School of Architecture and Design. At the founding of the school in fall 2009, he was appointed Assistant Dean, a position he held until fall 2012. In that capacity, he chaired the committees in charge of drafting the school’s bylaws, promotion criteria, strategic plan, and research funding policy, among others.
