Mr. Gabriel Abiad
Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications
Mr. Gabriel Abiad joined LAU as Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications in November 2016.
He manages integration across digital and mainstream channels, develops strategic plans to expand the reach and reputation of LAU, and supervises the production of communication vehicles, namely the university’s websites and key publications. Furthermore, he leads a team of specialists to effectively promote the thought leadership of LAU’s schools and institutes.
Mr. Abiad is a seasoned marketing and communications professional with decades of experience in the corporate and public sectors, nationally and internationally.
In the six years prior to joining LAU, he advanced several top brands as senior strategic planner, and later associate general manager, of FP7 (Fortune Promoseven); served as marketing director for McDonald’s Lebanon; taught marketing strategy at LAU; and opened his own consultancy.
That stage of his career was preceded by a seven-year stint with Acart Communications and HBS Marketing in Ottawa, Canada, where he developed national campaigns for Veteran Affairs Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Finance Canada, Health Canada, Parks Canada and the City of Ottawa.
As a young graduate, throughout the 1990s, Mr. Abiad cut his teeth at Obegi Consumer Products, Publicis-Graphics, and Leo Burnett in Beirut, working directly with renowned packaged-good marketers such as Nestlé, Kraft, and Tang. In 1999 he became client services manager at FP7, where he directed a team of managers in developing communications for FMCG, retail and automotive brands.
Mr. Abiad holds a Graduate Diploma in Education from Concordia University, Montreal, as well as an M.B.A. and a B.S. in Liberal Arts from LAU, Lebanon.
