My Journey at LAU

Andrea Khalil ‘22

My three-year journey at LAU was extremely wide-ranging and enlightening. I would like to thank all my instructors for believing in me and boosting my confidence.

Throughout, I was exposed to several activities and opportunities that empowered me. I enjoyed leading in group work, and the more group projects I participated in, the better I became as a leader, which is an important part of my career. Moreover, the simulation programs embedded in the nursing curriculum taught me to take quick decisions and think critically, and they also improved my leadership skills. Ever since my first semester on campus, I tried hard to maintain excellent grades because I knew this would benefit me for graduate studies. All my hard work paid off in the end, as I won the President’s Award, which reflected my efforts.

After three years of hard work, stress, successes, and failures, it was all worth it. I think that the LAU school of nursing helped me become a better version of myself. Not only did it grant me a wide base of theoretical and practical knowledge, but it also developed my personality. Three years ago, I was not the determined, bold, realistic, or mature person I am today, and the school made me realize that I had great potential. It is a privilege to have studied with a merit scholarship, which motivated me to constantly step up and do my best in all my courses.

Upon graduation, I see myself working in the Coronary Care Unit or Intensive Care Unit at either the Lebanese American University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital or the American University of Beirut Medical Center. I am also considering a master’s in adult care, a subject I am passionate about. After that, I might complete my PhD studies in Canada, in the hope that I would one day become part of LAU’s nursing faculty.

Throughout this journey of self-actualization in nursing, I hope to acquire much knowledge and become an influencer in my field. Whatever the future is holding for me, I am more than excited to begin my journey and become a leader.
