Experience

My Journey at LAU

Liane Buhamdan ’22

These three years of nursing school were a roller coaster. Considering all what we have been through, I genuinely believe that referring to graduation as “an achievement” is an understatement.

I still remember my first day of university as a confused 17-year-old who was far from home and surrounded by strangers. With every semester, I got to know my classmates and students from other majors a little better. Despite the economic crisis, COVID-19, and the Beirut Port blast, I was committed to my duties and clinical rotations at the hospital.

The online learning experience might have been troubling for some, but in my opinion, LAU made it a lot easier. At the Nursing Club, we held several online seminars to raise awareness on breast and colon cancer, among others.

I owe the person that I have become to every patient who left a mark, and every instructor who mentored me and helped me express myself. After graduation, I will be working in bedside nursing in Lebanon, while serving underdeveloped communities as a part-time engagement.

Today at age 20, I look back at the teenager I used to be, with a smile on my face, and with pride for what I have been able to accomplish during my years at LAU. I will always be grateful for this experience and for my instructors, without whom this would not have been possible.
