Become a “Standardized Patient Instructor” at the School of Medicine

Posted

Help train tomorrow’s doctors. Become a “Standardized Patient Instructor” at the LAU School of Medicine.

The Gilbert and Rose Marie Chagoury School of Medicine invites alumni, friends, and members of the community at large who are between the ages of 18 and 88 to participate in the teaching program of its medical students by enrolling as Standardized Patient Instructors (SPIs) in its Clinical Skills Program.

SPIs simulate real patients (after a period of training by LAU staff) and are interviewed and examined by LAU medical students. No medical background is required. Training sessions will be held at University Medical Center – Rizk Hospital. An average of only 8 to 10 hours per month is required. SPIs then provide feedback and, with time, instruction, to students and faculty on the performance of students they encounter in the role-playing sessions.

SPIs should have a good knowledge of English, although this is not absolutely necessary. A stipend, travel, meals and parking will be provided. If you are interested in becoming an SPI and get to know and educate future physicians, please contact the Clinical Skills Program at the School of Medicine, attention:

Dr. Nadia Asmar (nadia.asmar@lau.edu.lb)
